Paulina Rubio’s mother, Susana Dosamantes, passed away at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer.
According to Dallas News, Dosamantes was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April while he was a patient at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami.
Dosamentes’s representative told PEOPLE en Espaol after her diagnosis: “She is complying with the treatment but has avoided hospitalization so far. She must return to the clinic for additional chemo treatments “I can confirm that Alejandra Palomera is correct.
On Saturday, Rubio, 51, posted an official statement confirming the tragic news. My beautiful mother, Susan Dosamantes, begins a new cycle today, and it is with a heavy heart that I share the news that she is at peace and surrounded by her loved ones as she passes.
“My life’s example, a being of light, a strong woman, today joins the eternal life,” the Mexican singer continued.
Rubio continued by expressing her gratitude to the hospital staff for their excellent care of her mother, whom she called a “angel.”
She continued, “We ask for privacy from our loved ones at this time and are eternally grateful for your understanding and respect.”
The PEOPLE en Espaol website reports that before the announcement, Rubio spoke to the media from Mexico about the “delicate moment” she and her family were going through. She said, “I want your best prayer for my mother, who is always with me and we live in moments of uncertainty in the family, and I am in a very sensitive moment in my family, and vulnerability is something that you have to teach.
Dosamantes was not only Rubio’s mother, but also a well-known actress in her native Mexico.
She first appeared on screen in 1968’s Remolino de Pasiones and has since starred in numerous theater and TV productions, including her signature telenovelas, as reported by Dallas News.
